B.C. TEAL
David C. Lam / TEAL Foundation Scholarship

Purpose: To recognize a student graduating from a B.C. Secondary School who has combined academic competence with school or community involvement, and who wishes to further his/her education at a post-secondary institution in B.C.

David C. Lam, the 25th Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia, has demonstrated a combination of pursuit of competence with a recognition of service to others.  It is this combination of activities that the TEAL Charitable Foundation seeks to honour through the David C. Lam/TEAL Foundation Scholarship.

Amount of Scholarship:
$2,500 each (two scholarships are given).

Tenure:
Any B.C. post-secondary institution.

Criteria:

  • A graduating B.C. Grade 12 student who wishes to attend a post-secondary institution;
  • Consistent improvement in academic competence;
  • School or community involvement or service to others; and
  • ESL coursework at the secondary level.

Expectations:
In general, the award recipient is expected to commence his/her post-secondary education within one year of receiving the scholarship.  The recipient must also provide the TEAL Charitable Foundation with proof of secondary graduation and proof of acceptance into a post-secondary institution.

Application Deadline:
January 31st of each year.

Application Procedures:

  1. Obtain a Nomination Form  here.  Ask a school official to work with you to complete the form.
  2. Obtain transcripts from Grade 8 to 11, which include records of ESL coursework completed and documentation of Grade 12 program and marks to date.
  3. Write a personal essay (two pages in length, double-spaced, approx. 500 words) on how a post-secondary education will enable you to make a positive contribution to Canadian society.  Sign and submit the original copy of your essay.
  4. Obtain three letters of reference regarding academic performance from one or two of: teachers, administrators and/or counsellors.  Regarding service to others obtain from one or two of: counsellors, coaches, sponsors and/or coordinators.
  5. Check the above list and submit 2 copies (1 original and 1 photocopy) of your complete application and supporting documentations to the address below on or before the January 31st deadline.
