TCF Refugee Award

The TEAL Charitable Foundation [TCF] Refugee Award recognizes an adult or secondary student whose second language is English and who entered Canada as a refugee.  The award is for a refugee who has shown courage and determination while adapting to a new language and a new culture in Canada and wishes to study in a vocational or academic program at an educational institution in British Columbia.

Description

The TCF Refugee Award provides funding to support a refugee who wishes to study in a vocational or academic program at an educational institution in BC.

Criteria

Applicants will be evaluated according to the applicant’s ability to:

  •   i] Provide documented proof of refugee status.
  •  ii] Describe fully the vocational or academic program selected by the applicant.
  • iii] Provide reasons for applying for the TCF Refugee Award.
  • iv] Describe any community or volunteer involvement on the part of the applicant.

Amount of Award

The TCF Refugee Award is valued at $1000 [CAD] and will be awarded in April of each year.  The recipient must submit tuition receipts or program fees prior to receiving the TCF Refugee Award.

Application Deadline

The application deadline for the TCF Refugee Award is November 1st of each year. The successful recipient will be notified by the TCF within six weeks of the application deadline.

Application Procedure

To apply for the TCF Refugee Award, the  applicant needs to provide the following information:

  •   i] The applicant’s personal contact information.
  •  ii] Documented proof of the applicant’s refugee status.
  • iii] A full description of the vocational or academic program selected by the applicant.
  • iv] An explanation of the applicant’s reasons for applying for the TCF Refugee Award in 200 or more words.
  •  v] Information regarding any community or volunteer involvement on the part of the applicant.
  • vi] Two letters of reference.

Applicants are required to submit one copy of their application by November 1st to:
