Embarking on Adventure: Planning, Proposing and Executing Your Conference Presentation

Do you have an innovative classroom idea you would like to share with your peers? Perhaps you have an interest in replying to a BC TEAL conference call for presenters and would like some tried and true tips to get started. Then this is the webinar for you! Join seasoned presenters Jennifer and Tanya for an information session that takes you through the steps. Participants are encouraged to request a mentor to review your draft proposal and offer comments and support prior to submission. Online options for connecting with a mentor will be made available, so regional participation is encouraged. This mentorship opportunity will only be available for three weeks from the date of the webinar. (Disclaimer: Mentoring process is a support function and does not guarantee acceptance of a conference proposal.)

Jennifer Walsh Marr is an Academic English lecturer in the Arts faculty at UBC Vantage College. She has a BA in Applied Linguistics (UVic) and MA in Curriculum & Instruction (SFU), 20 years teaching experience and still gets nervous before every presentation..
Tanya Ploquin is a pronunciation specialist, teacher, Teacher Mentor, and Teacher Trainer. She is Treasurer for BC TEAL. Tanya has a TESOL Diploma from VCC, has been teaching for over 14 years, and is currently at VanWest College in Vancouver.

BC TEAL Mentoring Opportunity - Mentoring Application

Call for Mentors: Support your up and coming peers while building capacity in our community of practice! If you are an experienced EAL instructor with at least two to three conference presentations under your belt – this is your opportunity to support those newer to our field. Expectations include touching base with your mentee at least two times (up to 45 minutes each time) to provide support and/or suggestions related to a conference call for proposals. Mentorship timeline is from September 15th to October 6th, 2017. Additional meetings can be held at the discretion of the mentor. Please fill out our mentor application form by September 11, 2017.
