Shawna has made and continues to make invaluable contributions to BC TEAL. She has held various board positions over the years, but more than just holding these, she has done so much to further the organization, individually and collectively with the board and the wider BC TEAL community. In all that she does, Shawna is not only extremely professional but is dedicated to BC TEAL, and her accomplishments in that capacity speak for themselves. These include being an articulate spokesperson of and champion for the organization, chairing a number of conferences and sitting on conference committees with numerous others, and participating in offering professional development opportunities to members through many workshops and presentations, and encouraging others to do the same. Shawna has worn many hats in the profession including being an instructor, teacher-educator, and coordinator. Over the years, she has worked at UBC’s English Language Institute (including as Head Teacher of Assessment), at the English Bridge Program at SFU, at the English Language and Culture Program at SFU, as the Instructional Resource Coordinator at LISTN, and an instructor with VCC’s TESOL program. Regardless of what hat she is wearing, Shawna is generous of her time and knowledge. To acknowledge Shawna as outgoing BC TEAL president, the entire board, plus a number of friends and colleagues, participated in a surprise PechaKucha in her honour—a testament to the high degree of respect and admiration she invokes in others.
