The BC TEAL Board has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation locally and globally in relation to the annual conference in April. Our priority is the health and safety of our conference attendees, and based on a directive from the provincial government yesterday (https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2020HLTH0077-000484), we have made the decision to postpone the annual conference.
On one hand, this decision was a difficult one because countless hours have already been dedicated to the event by the conference chairs, presenters, exhibitors, and office staff. On the other hand, the decision was easy because we are unwilling to expose our conference attendees, their students, families, and communities to any potential risk that a large gathering might pose.
At this time, we ask you to be patient while we work on rescheduling the conference. Be assured that if you have paid your conference fees they will be applied to a future event. If you require a refund you can request one by clicking ‘view and manage your order online’ in the order confirmation email from Eventbrite. For presenters, you will be given the option to present at a future event and will not be required to re-submit your proposal. For all others including exhibitors and sponsors, more information will be forthcoming after our board meeting next week.
We will continue to monitor the situation, and when the BC CDC lifts their ban on large gatherings we will get back to conference planning.
The AGM will take place as scheduled on Saturday, April 25th in a virtual format. We will send out information for joining the AGM with the AGM package in a few weeks.
We will also plan some webinars and other online opportunities for members to connect over the next few months. In the meantime, let’s all do our best to stay safe, support each other, and limit the impact of the coronavirus in our communities.
