Brief Update on TEAL Office and Staff

BC TEAL has had a busy fall, and I’d like to thank the many involved in organizing or joining one of the many recent TEAL events. There was a flurry of activities around the province, particularly during EAL Week. I’m writing to update members on BC TEAL’s staff and office. As many of you will have noticed, we have a job posting for a BC TEAL Administrative Manager. After working for BC TEAL the past six years, Sandra Boehm has tendered her resignation to take on new challenges and opportunities. With BC TEAL, Sandra has been the first point of contact for many of you, helping with membership inquiries, event registration and much more. I’d like to thank Sandra for the grace, care, and professionalism she brought to the BC TEAL office every day. Her level of professionalism and dedication was recognized in her being part of the BC TEAL 50 at 50 this past year. Please join me in wishing Sandra all the best in her future endeavours.

While we look for a new administrative manager, please rest assured that BC TEAL’s office will remain open, ably staffed by our Interim Executive Director, Brenda Lohrenz, whom many of you have met in the past year or previously when she worked with LISTN. During this period, there will be no disruption of services. Additionally, we recently signed a 5-year lease extension on our office on Broadway.

On the horizon, please keep your eyes peeled for forthcoming information on the BC TEAL Annual conference, which will be at Vantage College at the UBC Vancouver campus. It will be BC TEAL’s 50th conference (in our 51st year) and with our partnership with TESOL International Association to host a TESOL International Symposium, it is sure to be a remarkable event. Notably, in the New Year, we will be launching our new website. The current website has served BC TEAL well the past several years, but we wanted a fresh look and a mobile-friendly website with some enhanced features and improved navigation. Special thanks to Dr. Ken Beatty, BC TEAL Website Chair, along with the website committee and our staff for their work on this. I’ve seen the mockups of the new site and it looks fantastic. I’m excited to see it launched in the near future.

As always, BC TEAL has a lot going on, so keep your eye on our announcements in the coming months.
