Job Posting – LINC Teacher, Level 5


Start Date: September 1, 2020

Part-time position: 15 hours/week; Monday – Thursday 9:00 – 12:15

Little Mountain Neighbourhood House Society (LMNHS) offers LINC classes from LINC Level 1 – 6. LMNH is looking for a LINC 5 teacher to join our small but dynamic LINC team. Key responsibilities are to ensure instructions enlightens student’s knowledge of community services to build confidence in accessing other services and to successfully integrate into Canadian Society. This position reports to the Settlement Services Manager.

LINC Teacher: Responsibilities and Duties

The LINC Teacher’s key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and prepare lesson plans which conform to the CLB curriculum and student needs;
  • Assess and evaluate students using Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) indicators and Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA);
  • Monitor and record student progress on a regular basis using CLB portfolio assessments;
  • Deliver ESL instruction under CLB benchmark curriculum;
  • Create a welcoming and encouraging classroom environment both in person and online as appropriate;
  • Maintaining student attendance records;
  • Plan for class field trips, guest speakers, and special events, when appropriate;
  • Work with the LINC Operations Coordinator;
  • Liaise with settlement workers to ensure student support is available, if required;
  • Attend PD training courses to ensure sound pedagogical principles and practice;
  • Attend monthly meetings;
  • Be available for student discussions as needed

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • TESL certificate or CELTA or equivalent
  • Post-Secondary Degree
  • Minimum 2-year classroom experience teaching adult ESL at various levels
  • Sound knowledge of Canadian Language Benchmarks and PBLA principles and ability to benchmark student progress
  • Sensitivity to multicultural issues
  • Excellent lesson planning, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently with solid time management and organizational skills

Rate: $36.66 includes prep and meeting time
