Settlement Workers: Virtual Information Session Third-Party Language Testing (free)

FREE: BCSIS Virtual Information Session Third-Party Language Testing

In this Virtual Information Session, Settlement Workers will learn about Third-Party Language Testing and its role in pathways to PR.

As part of the eligibility criteria for Permanent Residency (PR), most applicants must prove their English or French Language ability by taking an approved language test. Therefore, it is essential for Settlement Workers to be familiar with the IRCC-approved, language tests, in order to better support clients through the PR application process.

The session will provide Settlement Workers with a comprehensive understanding of the available IRCC-approved, language tests. Third-Party Language Test providers will share up-to-date, practical information about the language tests and how to prepare their clients for testing. Presentations will include details on how to register and prepare for the tests, testing timelines and waitlist information, test center locations, and the resources and supports offered to clients.

The session will feature speakers from three IRCC-approved Language Test Providers: the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index (CELPIP), Test d’évaluation de français (TEF), and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). It will be introduced by Ryan Drew of S.U.C.C.E.S.S., an expert in settlement services and English language instruction.

Ryan Drew, Director of Integrated Services for Newcomers, S.U.C.C.E.S.S.
Ryan began her career at S.U.C.C.E.S.S. 22 years ago. During that time, Ryan has held many different roles including Language Instructor, Best Practices Coordinator, Regional Manager, and Program Director. Most recently, she holds the role of Director of Integrated Services for Newcomers, for the past 3 years where she supports all of the social service programming at SUCCESS – services for newcomers, seniors, youth, families, entrepreneurs, and vulnerable populations. She is proud to ensure the delivery of quality services that enrich people’s lives.
Alison Chan, Stakeholder Relations Specialist, Paragon Testing Enterprises – CELPIP
Alison Chan currently works as a Stakeholder Relations Specialist at Paragon Testing Enterprises, which administers the CELPIP and CAEL English tests. She spent 15+ years working in policy and non-profit organizations that support newcomers and refugees to Canada, such as AMSSA, and worked on a campaign and petition to reform the Immigration Loan Program. She is multilingual in more than 4 languages and has traveled, worked, and studied in more than 30 countries and more than 10 places across Canada.
Michael Holaday, Vice President, Business Development, Paragon Testing Enterprises – CELPIP
Michael has spent his career in education, first as a teacher, and then for many years in recruitment and admissions at the University of British Columbia. He is excited to be working at a leader in English language testing, where they offer the CAEL test for admission to Canadian universities and colleges, and the CELPIP for those wishing to become permanent residents.
Christophe Carillon, Program Coordinator, Collège Educacentre – TEF
Christophe is currently in charge of the TEF exams and the LINC program at Collège Educacentre. Previously, he worked within the Alliance française and French Cultural Centre networks abroad.
Monica Aguirre, Stakeholder Relations Manager, IDP IELTS Canada – IELTS 
Monica is responsible for engaging with Canadian organizations within the education sector, government, and professional registration authorities interested in language proficiency and accepting IELTS at their organization. Monica has over ten years of experience in international education and has an in-depth understanding of the Canadian market, client relationships management, and the study of new languages. Monica is fluent in Spanish, German and has a working knowledge of Portuguese.
Tania Knoch, Director of Testing Services and Business Development, Global Village Canada – IELTS
Tania manages the Global Village test centers in both Victoria, BC and Calgary, AB. Tania has worked with the Global Village group for over 20 years in various job positions from ESL Instructor to COO for Global Village Calgary. Tania enjoys the learning languages and is fluent in English and French, and is a beginner level of student of Spanish. Global Village Canada is known for its staff and the international community of its student body. They offer face-to-face and live virtual English classes in General ESL at eight levels and English courses in IELTS, Business English, and Cambridge First Certificate. They have several IELTS course options including evening classes and one-on-one tutoring.
