Alison Whitmore, MEd: 1st Vice President (2016-2018)

I spent  20 years of my early adulthood garnering life experiences and seeing the world, interspersed with earning credentials. My eclectic approach to teaching and learning was bolstered by varied forays into the world of academia. I qualified as a BC Certified teacher in 1980, and earned a BGS, with minors in Latin American Studies and Early Childhood Education. Next came a Kinesiology Certificate and a Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Special Education.  My MEd in Curriculum Design focused on teaching writing to second language learners.

Since 1991, I have taught for the Coquitlam School Board, Continuing Education, teaching in the EAL, LINC, High School Credit and ABE programs.  Since 2007, I have been the Coordinator for Continuing Education, working with the LINC program, childminding, and Foundations. For the past 2 years, I have also been President of the Board of Directors, LISTN, formerly ELSA Net.

In my professional life, I have taken to heart my School Board’s vision: “Learning without Boundaries, Learning for a Lifetime”. Education has a transformative power to make the world a better place, and language learning within a community setting is an integral part of this vision. In pursuit of this vision, I work closely with adult students, teachers and Tri-Cities services and providers.
